Starbucks Pink Drink Recipe – Detoxification

If you have a teenager in your life, you may have heard of the famous Starbucks pink drink. It is made from Strawberry Acai Review, coconut milk and freeze-dried strawberries. The large size I live in is just over $6, so it can quickly become an expensive habit.

I don’t know you, but I don’t keep freeze-dried strawberries or anything from acai in the pantry. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make delicious versions at home!

With white grape juice, fresh strawberries, tea and coconut milk, you can make a strawberry drink faster than you can drive to your local coffee shop. Your wallet and taste buds will thank you!

I’ve tested this recipe with my neighbor (and her teenage years!) for honest feedback. We also bought a real pink drink from Starbucks and tasted our DIY version side by side.

Here is what we tried:

  • Test Round 1: 1 cup white grape juice + 1/2 cup strawberries + 1/2 cup green tea + 1/2 cup coconut milk (result: yuck! Too much coconut milk)
  • test Round 2: 1 cup white grape juice + 1/2 cup strawberries + 1/2 cup green tea + 1 tablespoon coconut milk. (Result: We love this! It doesn’t taste like the Starbucks version; we all think it tastes better.)
  • Test Round 2.5: Try the same combination above, but doubling with green tea to the lower sugar version. (Result: Green tea has a more prominent taste, which is not bad, but not that much.)
  • test Round 3: 1 cup white grape juice + 1/2 cup strawberries + 3/4 cup passion tea + 1 tablespoon coconut milk (Result: I’m worried about how red it was at the beginning, but when poured on ice it looks like something real and looks better than the green tea version.
  • Test Round 4: My neighbor’s teenage daughter reported that the above test still doesn’t taste as good as the Starbucks version. So I ordered the real one again and realized what was missing from my version – a ‘jelly’ flavor! I added a spoonful of collagen to the next batch, which is the secret to making it taste more like Starbucks. Plus, it’s even creamier and has more protein per drink. Win-win!

If you are considering making your own tweaks, I’ll share these tests. Hopefully my experience will help you choose what best suits you and your taste buds.

Pink drink nutrition

According to their website, the Grande Starbucks pink drink has 140 calories and 25 grams of sugar. This homemade version doesn’t have a significant reduction in calories, but I feel better about the ingredients because it uses 100% juice instead of refined sugar for sweetness.

Collagen peptides are added to the stirred pink drink. Collagen peptides are added to the stirred pink drink.

Pink beverage ingredients

To make a pink drink with Starbucks, you need 100% white grape juice, fresh strawberries, a can of coconut milk and brewed green tea.

If you don’t have tea bags in the house, that might count as a specialty item, but otherwise, these things are easy to access without a professional store! (I bought all these ingredients at Target.)

Pink beverage ingredients are labeled with white grape juice, tazo tea, coconut milk and strawberries. Pink beverage ingredients are labeled with white grape juice, tazo tea, coconut milk and strawberries.

This recipe has the best flavor when you use Tazo Passion Tea. We always have these tea bags in the house at home because my kids love to drink tea on ice. (It has a slightly sour and gorgeous red.)

If this sounds like the challenge to find, use green tea or black tea instead. Both will give you a boost of caffeine – if you need an afternoon pick me up, black caffeine is a little more than green.

Coconut milk tip

I know that it is annoying to open a can of coconut milk with just two tablespoons. But you can use the rest of the coconut milk tonight for supper! Make a coconut chicken curry or Thai Parnen curry and impress your family with these beautiful pink drinks and delicious dinners. (No one will notice that the two tablespoons missing in the jar are made up by adding extra water.)

How to Make Pink Drinks

Step 1:

First make tea. Pour the boiling water on a tea bag, use a hot tea cup, and soak it for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove and discard the tea bag and distribute the tea briefly.

notes: For caffeinated beverages, use green or black tea instead.

Step 2:

Remove the hull from the strawberries and cut it into quarters for easy measurement. Add them to a high-speed blender with white grape juice, brewed tea and coconut milk.

Secure the lid to the blender and stir well until the drink looks light pink and creamy. Taste the drink and make any adjustments you like. (For a sweet drink, add more juice. For less sweet drinks, add more tea.)

notes: Add a scoop of collagen peptide to give it a more authentic flavor. Starbucks drinks have a “jelly” aftertaste, and this addition makes it more authentic.

Step 3:

Pour the mixed drinks over a glass of ice and garnish with thinly sliced strawberries. It can be enjoyed immediately!

The remaining strawberry drinks can be stored in tightly sealed cans in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It will be separated during storage, so it will shake every time it is served.

  • If you haven’t made tea yet, pour 2 cups of boiling water onto a passionate tea bag with a heat therapy cup. Let it soak for 3 to 4 minutes and remove the tea bag. (Or, you can use green tea or black tea.)
  • Mix 1½ cups of brewed tea, white grape juice, strawberries and coconut milk with a high-speed mixer. Secure the lid and mix until the strawberries are mostly crushed. If there are a few pieces floating in the drink, it doesn’t matter. Add a spoon (2 tablespoons) of odorless collagen peptide to the cream version. This makes the drink have the same “jelly” as the Starbucks version.

  • Taste the pink drink and make any adjustments if needed. For less sweet drinks, add more tea or pure water. For a sweet drink, you can add maple syrup or extra grape juice. Serve on ice and serve with extra strawberry slices for a Starbucks-like experience.

  • The remaining beverages can be stored in tightly sealed cans in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. It may separate during storage, so shake and then apply ice.

Assuming you can get 4 cups from this recipe, the nutritional information is about 1 pink drink. When eaten on ice, a 16-ounce cup should be filled.
•Tea Note: Tazo Passion Tea is something my family has been brewing all summer (for iced tea with decaffeinated), so I believe you would use it if you buy it. If you prefer a caffeinated beverage, use green or black tea instead. According to the Mayonnaise Clinic, 8 ounces of green tea contains 29 mg of caffeine and 48 mg of black tea.
•White grape juice note: Feel free to try other juice varieties in this recipe. If you like to use 100% juice like me, check the label. Ocean Spray White Crane + Strawberry Juice lists water and sugar before any juice on the label. (Ingredient labels are always listed in quantity order, which means more water and sugar than juice.)
• Coconut milk note: This recipe uses whole fat canned coconut milk. For the most creamy effect, stir well (or mix) before measuring. Put the rest of the jars in the recipe, such as Panang curry or Coconut Chicken Curry. No one of the recipes miss 2 tablespoons of coconut milk.
