Natural homemade baby powder

When I first became a mom, I began to question all the ingredients I had about my baby. Unfortunately, most of my questions don't have good answers. I was surprised to find that one product with the problematic ingredient is baby powder.
Baby powder problem…
While this seems innocent, baby powder often has some hidden ingredients. Until recently, companies like Johnson & Johnson have used talc as a main ingredient in baby powder. The problem is that talc is often contaminated by cancer, resulting in asbestos. Now, after 57,000 lawsuits, J&J has recently replaced talc powder in baby powder for talc-free babies.
Even with the new formula, there are still some sensitive skin problems. There is a perfume associated with allergen concerns and endocrine disturbances. or benzyl salicylate with high risk of allergic and immunotoxicity…but only if it is in powder form.
When I really have little ones, I want personal care products that are safe for my baby's skin as well. Thankfully, there are natural baby powders and baby products out there safely on the bottom of the baby.
Make your own homemade baby powder
I did find some good store-bought alternatives, such as the organic alternatives to Eraornalics and Little Twig baby powder. However, I want to find a nice DIY version. I doubt it can be done, I can save money and be able to customize it.
Unlike some body care recipes that require multiple attempts before I find my favorite recipes, it's relatively simple. Just a natural powder that includes some type and optional herbs or essential oils.
Ingredients for baby powder
I settled on the base using arrow powder or organic corn starch and added chamomile and gold, which are herbs of powder to soothe the pain at the bottom. Some recipes are added with a mixture of kaolin clay, baking soda or tapioca starch. I also tried adding a few drops of chamomile essential oil and it worked very well. If you don’t have chamomile, tea tree or lavender essential oil is a great alternative.
I find it easiest to use when I store it in powdered sugar. I also packed homemade baby powder in it and attached a recipe card of how to make more when I was a baby gift.
If you are worried about crispy contact with your baby, consider making your own baby powder.
Homemade Baby Powder Recipe
This easy recipe has soothing ingredients on the bottom of your baby. Great for reducing moisture in adult skin!
yield: 0.5 cup
-
If using chamomile or wire flowers, powder them in a blender or coffee grinder (see notes below for tips).
-
Mix the exquisite flowers or essential oils with arrow powder and store them in a glass jar, spice jar or sugar shaker for ease of use.
You can add a few tablespoons of arrow powder to a coffee grinder with flowers and essential oils. Mixing them together in this way can better combine ingredients and avoid clumping. Just wait for the powder to fix it and open the lid!
How to use baby powder
Baby powder is not only helpful for babies! Women have used it as part of a skin care routine for decades. Body powder helps absorb excess sweat and moisture from the skin. Keeping the bottom of the baby dry to prevent diaper rash is also helpful. When you add soothing herbs, it can help skin recover faster.
