It is becoming a milestone of the week in Russia Daniil Medvedev. Today he won his 400th professional victory and defeated Quentin Halys 6-2, 7-5, tomorrow he can win his 50th career pasture victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas or Alex Michelsen.
But for Medvedev, victory is not as important as a big champion.
“To be honest, winning, I don’t think that matters.”
Medvedev shares a story about Mikhail Youzhny approaching his 500th victory. He asked Youzhny’s coach that if the milestone never reached, the coach abandoned a certain wisdom in his own way.

“His coach is like ‘If he created 500 or 499, what would his life change?’ Medvedev said.
“I thought, it’s true. Grand Slams are important, titles are important. A lot of things are important in tennis, but the game itself wins, and I don’t think they make much sense, but if I manage to break some records, maybe in my country, win the most wins, then I’d be happy to do it.”
Medvedev won 306 games (111 losses) on the hard court and won 18 titles. On the grass, he won 49 victories, 23 losses and 1 championship. On clay, he is 45-35, the title.
Russia is the tenth active ATP player, able to achieve 400 wins.
