Ice Tea Latte Coffee-Datoxinista

About 20 years ago, when I was a barista in college, I started making chai lattes. At that time, we used a chai concentrate that could sit on the counter for a month without destroying it. (Probably thanks to all sugars as preservatives.)

It took me weeks to make a parody version of this chai concentrate because I wish it would taste like a coffee shop without using refined sugar. I also don’t want to spend time cooking full spices on the stove to make a simple syrup.

Fortunately, I came up with a simple solution that can be assembled in minutes. All you have to do is wait for a strong cup of tea to brew while adding some ingredients to the jar. It tastes very similar to the store-bought version, and for the rest of the week you will let you drink the iced chai latte!

Ice Tea Latte Ingredients

Here is what you need:

  • black tea. You don’t need a tea bag to make a chai latte. Any simple black tea will be made! We immediately use a few portions to concentrate the tea flavor.
  • spices. For convenience, we are using ground spices, and only three of them will provide a lot of flavor. If you prefer spicy wood, strengthen ginger and cloves, or add a little cardamom or nutmeg for a deeper look.
  • Maple syrup. This natural sweetener pairs perfectly with these spices, and since it is liquid, you don’t need to boil it on the stovetop like regular sugar. Honey may be exchanged, but may affect the taste.

In a 16-ounce mason jar, add maple syrup, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Once the tea is brewed, remove the tea bags and pour the intense tea into a mason jar with syrup and spices.

Mix everything together with stirring, or hold the lid on the jar and shake. This is your chai tea concentrate!

Step 3:

Add about 1 1/2 cup of ice to the glass and pour 3/4 cup of your favorite milk over the ice.

Each time you are ready to use, shake the concentrate in the jar and pour 1/4 cup of the concentrate into iced milk. (Make a beautiful vortex in this way!)

Stir well and enjoy! If you need a sweeter or spicy flavor, add more Chai concentrate if you think it is appropriate.

Changes of iced lattes

Make a “dirty chai latte” by adding espresso or a cold beer to the glass. You can also make it more considerate by adding a ball of foam or whipped cream to it.
