My version of this viral adrenal cocktail drink

If you have spent any time browsing health blogs or social media recently, you may be experiencing a virus’ “cortisol cocktail” recipe. Influential people and experts tout the drink as a miracle that supports adrenal health and lowers cortisol levels.

While it’s easy to get excited about trendy health supplements, I want to take a closer look at the original recipe and break down each ingredient. I will then share a version of my own adrenal cocktail recipe and why different ingredients are used.

Create a cortisol cocktail

Back in my time (or at least 12 years ago, when I first studied natural life), people called it adrenal supplements or adrenal cocktail recipes. And there are many changes. Then I tried some of them and found a couple I liked and hadn’t drunk these for years.

Last year, as the stress grew (Hello single mom life), I returned to them and found a recipe I liked better. This recipe is not sweet or indulgent in a pure form, just like other recipes you find online. However, I found that I had a lower sugar content without OJ and coconut water base. If you don’t like unsweetened drinks, you can always add one of the original ingredients of your choice or a small amount of honey or natural sweetener.

Let’s dig into the original “cortisol cocktail” that is the ingredients behind it, and why I chose some tweaks to make it more supportive for my body.

Original recipes usually contain a mixture of orange juice, coconut water, salt, honey, cream of tartar and sometimes even other ingredients. You can find recipes for adding collagen powder, coconut cream, coconut milk and even soda. These are all thought to play a role in supporting the adrenal glands and helping to balance cortisol levels.

Our adrenal hormones also help maintain healthy blood pressure levels and regulate heart rate. Excess cortisol can damage gut health, resulting in weight gain, cravings and leaky guy symptoms. This may have an overall destructive effect on the endocrine and immune system.

Here is a breakdown of the health benefits behind these ingredients:

  • Orange juice: Orange juice is packed with vitamin C and plays a role in supporting adrenal health. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that helps the body cope with stress hormones and helps cortisol production. Under stress, the adrenal glands consume a lot of vitamin C, which is why supplementing it can help.
  • Coconut water: Known for its electrolyte content, especially potassium and magnesium, coconut water is usually included for its moisturizing properties. Proper hydration is essential for adrenal function. The minerals in coconut water help maintain electrolyte balance, thus supporting overall pressure elasticity.
  • Salt:Salt, especially high-quality sea salt or Himalayan pink salt, helps balance sodium content. This balance is important for maintaining healthy adrenal function. When cortisol is elevated, it can cause an imbalance in sodium and potassium, so adding salt helps support hydration and liquid balance.
  • Honey: Honey is added as a natural source of sugar, providing fast energy to the human body. Since stress can drain energy levels, a small amount of honey helps provide fast glucose to fuel and support adrenal function. It is also more friendly than processed sugar.
  • Cream of tartar: This ingredient is usually added to its potassium content, which can help offset the effect of stress on potassium levels. Potassium is believed to help regulate pressure reactions and balance electrolytes.

While this combination of ingredients is certainly nourishing and has benefits for adrenal health, I made some adjustments. This updated version is more suitable for my needs and enhances the effectiveness of the beverage in balancing cortisol.

My Cortisol Cocktail Recipe: The Original Twist

This version has key benefits of the original ingredients, but better supports cortisol balance. It also provides more nourishing benefits through whole food ingredients.

Here’s what’s in the adrenal cocktail:

  • lemon: Rich in vitamin C, which is crucial for adrenal health and cortisol regulation. Lemons also help alkalize the body, promote digestion and provide a refreshing day.
  • olive oil: Olive oil is a healthy fat that supports hormone production and provides anti-inflammatory effects. I love adding it to my cortisol cocktail because it makes me feel full and nourished. Healthy fats also work in the hormone balance, including cortisol.
  • Marine Minerals (from activated products): These marine minerals provide an effective source of electrolytes, including magnesium. These support adrenal health and help control cortisol levels. I prefer marine minerals because they contain a wide range of minerals that work together to support overall health. I found it not only salt, but also tasted milder.
  • Liquid potassium: Potassium is crucial for fluid balance and cellular function. Since chronic stress depleted potassium levels, I added a few drops of liquid potassium to help replenish it and support a healthy cortisol rhythm. I found this to be one of the key ingredients, from the cream of tartar in the original recipe. I prefer liquid potassium.

Adrenal cocktail recipes

This is my version of the viral adrenal cocktail drink. This provides enhanced vitamin C, healthy fats and minerals to support healthy cortisol levels.

  • Add all the ingredients to the blender (if organic, the whole lemon is included and the blender can blend it enough).

  • Stir high for about a minute or until completely smooth.

  • Optional: For smoother texture, filter the drink through a fine mesh filter.

Olive oil and vitamin C can help you stay regular, but if you drink too much, you may find the stool loose.

When to drink Adrenal cocktail

This can be consumed at any time of the day.

I often like this in the morning, before eating. This helps start my day with nourishing drinks and supports my hydration and digestion. With the highest levels of cortisol in the morning, this drink provides important nutrients to support adrenal health and energy levels. It does not artificially lower cortisol levels (because the morning cortisol is naturally higher).

Alternatively, this can be consumed in the afternoon or evening to help lower cortisol before getting out of bed and provide sleep support in this way. When I feel the most stressed, sometimes I have some versions twice a day, or add lemon juice and minerals at night.

Why is this not a miracle healing (but still useful)

While cortisol cocktails may be a useful and supportive addition to your daily routine, it is important to remember that this is not a miracle treatment. It won’t magically solve all your stress, nor will it make the cortisol problem go away overnight. Cortisol balance is a complex issue and requires a holistic approach, which is why I always combine this drink with other lifestyle practices to support overall well-being.

Other hormone support supplements

I often pair this drink with hormone-supported supplements. I will hide saffron (morning or evening), Ashwagandha (morning) and Rhodiola (morning). These adapters and mood-enhancing herbs help balance cortisol and support healthy stress responses. Saffron helps with emotional and psychological clarity, while Ashwagandha and Rhodiola help regulate cortisol levels and reduce stress-induced fatigue.

Together, these supplements complement the effects of cortisol cocktails and provide more support for the start of calm, balance on the day.
