Fognini married 2015 U.S. Open champion Flavia Pennetta and has three children, Federico, Farah and Flaminia.
During his two decades of career, he was charming, cruel, controversial and entertaining, often attracting the anger of his opponents with a rash attitude. He is also very talented and able to insert subtle touches with surprising power. On clay, the surface he grew up in was his best, and at his peak he performed like one of the five best clay figures in the world.
