DIY natural hair care stick hair

I've traveled a lot in recent years, from Texas to Iceland and everything in between. While I love experiencing new things, I don’t always like to travel with liquid conditioner and shampoo. This nourishing conditioner bar recipe is great for traveling and even for use at home!
The best conditioner is a conditioner that tangles hair, moisturizes and has no rough ingredients. I love this homemade conditioner, but sometimes it's nice to have a solid hair stick.
What's in the hair care stick?
The shampoo stick has been around for a while now, and it’s a hair care routine. A few years ago, I shared a recipe for a moisturizing shampoo bar. Basically handmade soap, radiating with natural ingredients and cleaning hair. Conditioner bars are similar, but use more moisturizing ingredients than soap and detergents. They are a more environmentally friendly (or even zero waste) alternative to regular shampoos and conditioners.
There are a lot of cleaner versions out there, but most of them still contain methsulfate or chloride. The chemical is made from rapeseed oil (usually a GMO) and extracted with solvents (not a healthy choice either). Although the end result is technically safe, it certainly isn't very natural. Comments about this ingredient are much better, but security data is a bit lacking. So, I want to create a hair care stick that skips it.
I love that the DIY conditioner stick is an easy way to skip the parabens, silicones and sulfates found in regular shampoos. You can even make a perfume-free hair stick. They can also be without plastic, as you can skip plastic bottles.
It's easy to create a strip that is entirely oil-based. These are great for damaged hair, dry hair, curly hair and curly hair. However, for certain hair types, such as those with thin or fine hair, they may be too heavy. And, if you use it for too much time, it may make your hair feel heavy, greasy, or curly.
Natural conditioner bar ingredients
Some of my daughters and I have long hair so what I want works well without being greasy. Although some of us have natural curls, my hair is definitely straight and thin.
This hair rod formula incorporates some lighter ingredients such as glycerin and aloe vera into the mixture. Instead of beeswax, it uses cocoa butter and mango butter to harden the bar. I also added hair-loving oils like jojoba oil (or argan oil), lavender and rosemary essential oils. These promote healthy hair and make it smell good! If you want an ignorant version, you can leave out essential oils, but they do add to your health benefits.
Since the recipe uses both water and oil-soluble ingredients, I also use emulsified wax. This helps bring all the ingredients together. Usually, when I make lotion rods (similar process) I just pour the hot liquid into the silicone mold when it is done. For this recipe, you must stir while cooling to prevent the mixture from being separated.
This recipe is simple and basically involves melting, stirring and pouring. It makes the hair feel soft and smells great! Try it with this DIY shampoo bar.
Natural solid hair care stick
This DIY natural hair care rod is portable to help your hair stay soft and nourished.
yield: 4 bar
-
Add cocoa butter, mango butter, jojoba oil and apply wax to the top of the double boiler. Heat over medium-low temperature or until completely melted, stirring occasionally.
-
While the oil is heated on the stove, mix the aloe vera, glycerin and essential oil in a separate small bowl.
-
Once the oil has completely melted, turn off the heat and slowly pour in the water-based ingredients. Stir continuously while pouring.
-
Allow the mixture to cool in the refrigerator for about 30-40 minutes. Stir every 10 minutes or stir until it looks creamy, opaque, and has the consistency of the batter.
-
Pour the mixture into the mold and smooth the top.
-
Cool in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until hard. I left mine all night.
-
Use after shampooing (see more instructions below). These are also a great skin lotion!
- From the research I've done this should be safe for color-treated hair. However, please ask if your hairstylist is unsure.
- You can also apply it to really dry hair for use as a leave-in conditioner.
How to use a DIY hair care stick
It took a long walk a little bit! Avoid using too much conditioner or your hair will feel greasy. And because the scalp naturally produces oil, most people don’t need to adjust the oil.
- Apply a hair care stick on your hands.
- Rub your hands on the end of your hair and exercise. Avoid scalp.
- Rinse with very warm water, which will help further disperse the oil.
