Chrissie Evert IS officially became a shining star in tennis.
Hall of Fame Evert was one of several tennis legends at Harlem’s junior high school and education program evening last night.

Celebrities from the world of tennis, celebrity tennis fans, philanthropists and supporters celebrate the Harlem Junior Tennis and Education Program (HJTEP), helping and inspiring young people through tennis and education through HJTEP annual Gala.
In addition to celebrating the success of nearly 1,000 young people who benefit from the HJTEP each year, the event pays homage to its two most enthusiastic supporters by awarding the Shining Star Award and the HJTEP Corporate Award to Chrissie Evert.

HJTEP has developed a championship in tennis education and health, bringing tennis to young people in high-risk, low-income inner-urban communities and providing opportunities for self-development, emphasizing education and positive codes of conduct.
The nonprofit opens a new door for many inner city boys and girls aged 6-18 to learn tennis. Since 1972, this figure has expressed its success with a 95% high school graduation rate, a 3.1 GPA and 80% college graduates’ success.
