Chocolate Egg Balls – Datoxinista

I made a lot of date energy balls in my life, but it took me a while to get this version of the protein package right because protein powders tend to ruin flavor. (And I won’t share recipes that taste bad.)
I guess you are grateful, too. If you want a protein ball without oats, this recipe is great too. This use date is extra fiber and natural sweetness.

These chocolate protein balls taste like gummy, but have a chewy consistency and a rich nutty flavor. They are easy to customize and naturally enjoy the fruit to provide healthy snacks.
Plus, they are gluten-free!
Protein ball ingredients
Medjool dates and nut butter provide this recipe structure, so you don’t need almond flour or oats this time. If you need nut-free snacks, use sunflower seed butter instead!
If you are new to working with dates, the best dates look juicy and are for sale near fresh fruit or in the icy part. Costco and Trader Joe usually have many options. You’ll know that dates are great for recipes when you can easily separate it with your fingers to remove the pit from the inside.
Would you rather not work with the date?
I also have an egg white ball recipe made with maple syrup or honey.
As far as dry ingredients are concerned, we will work with cocoa or cocoa powder and collagen peptides as they blend seamlessly into these protein bites. (So, there is no protein powder flavor!)

If you stick with chocolate protein powder, know that the flavor will change. The dates are already sweet and most flavored protein powders are sugared with zero-calorie sweetener. Take risks and be at your own risk!
You can also add extra content, such as a splash of chopped coconut or vanilla extract. As you use this baking-free recipe is easy to taste and adjust.
How to make chocolate protein balls with dates
First remove the pit from the 8 ounce Medjool date. When I remove the pits, I use a food scale to weigh these tradeoffs, but you can also press them tightly into measuring cups. (A cup of tight pit dates about 8 ounces.)
Add the date of the pit to the bowl of a 12-cup food processor with S blue, along with almond butter, cocoa powder or cocoa powder, collagen peptides and salt. Secure the lid for about 60 seconds until the mixture sticks together and looks like a sticky cookie dough.
notes: Don’t over-treat the dough, or it may become greasy. Once the mixture is pressed between fingers, it’s OK!

Use a cookie spoon or a slightly stacked spoon to scoo the dough and roll it between your hands to form a ball. Place it on a parchment liner and repeat the process. You should get about 15 balls from this batch. (If you need more, feel free to double it!)
Let cool in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, then transfer the balls to an airtight container with a lid to maintain its flavor.
Store the balls in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for 3 months.

- 1 cup Medjool date ,nail
- ½ cup Peanut butter
- ¼ cup Cocoa powder
- ⅓ cup collagen
- ⅛ teaspoon Fine sea salt
Protein powder notes: The tasteless collagen will blend seamlessly into this recipe, but if you want to try other options I will use less first. (Maybe only one or two tablespoons.) That way, if the protein powder tastes too strong, you won’t ruin the batch.
