Chipotle Vinegar Recipe (Chitole CopyCat)

I’ve been trying to find out a recipe for honey chili vinegar for months. It was inspired by Chipotle’s seasoning, and only this imitation version tasted better.

(Probably because it uses less oil!)

If you are disappointed with other Chipotle CopyCat seasonings online, give up before trying this product. I’ve tested it at least 10 times to make sure it’s repeatable, not too greasy, and perfectly seasoned.

Drizzle it with tacos, salads, tortillas, etc. It will immediately lift your meals so you will feel like you have ordered takeaway but a fraction of the price.

Chili Honey Vinegar Ingredients

This recipe comes with simple pantry ingredients – oil, vinegar, salt and pepper – plus some extras like chili peppers, honey and some spices. I’m using avocado oil for this, but olive oil works too.

According to Chipotle’s website, they do not use lime juice in salad seasoning. But after testing a few batches, I noticed that the lemon juice had a positive effect on the taste. This makes me crave more salads!

If you have never bought a can of Chipotle Chili in Adobo sauce, you can see the look in the photo below. This is the key to getting the right taste! You only need one of the chili peppers in these recipes, so I recommend freezing the rest for future use. (I freeze them separately in an ice cube tray and transfer them to a storage bag in the refrigerator.)

How to make Chipotle balsamic vinegar

Step 1:

Add avocado oil, red wine vinegar, lime juice, chili peppers, garlic, honey, fennel, oregano, salt and pepper, and add to the high-speed mixer. The exact measurements are located in the printable recipe card below.

This will blend together in a personal size blender or a large blender with a narrow base. (If you watched my Vitamix review video, you know how much difference a blender makes when mixing a small batch of seasoning.)

notes: If you don’t have a small or narrow mixer option, consider making two batches of seasonings that will blend more smoothly in large pitchers. (One batch = 3/4 cup, double batch = 1 1/2 cup, preferred.)

Step 2:

Secure the lid and mix until the mixture is smooth. Make sure you haven’t missed any crumb pepper or garlic as it will be unpleasant. Taste and make any necessary adjustments.

If you prefer a sweet dressing, add a little more honey. For a strong flavor, add more lime juice. If you want super spicy seasoning, add another chili! If necessary, you can also double the batch.

It can be used immediately! Drizzle it in a burrito bowl, tacos, grilled chicken, tortillas, and more. It will immediately enhance the taste of any meal.

Storage Tips

Pour seasoning into an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. If it becomes thicker while refrigerated, let stand at room temperature for 30 minutes to allow it to pour in again.

  • cup Avocado oil
  • 2 spoon Red wine vinegar
  • 2 spoon Fresh lime juice
  • 2 spoon Honey
  • 1 Chili sauce in chili sauce (See comments)
  • 1 Garlic cloves
  • ½ teaspoon Ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon Dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon Grind black pepper
  • ¾ teaspoon Fine sea salt
  • In a high-speed mixer (see notes below), mix together oil, vinegar, lemon juice, honey, chili pepper, garlic, cumin, oregano, oregano, pepper and salt. Secure the lid and mix until the dressing is smooth and emulsified.

  • Taste the seasonings to make sure you like the taste. You can always add more honey to get a splash of sweetness or vinegar to make it more flavorful. Pour seasoning into a sealed can with a lid and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week. If it gets thicker while refrigerated overnight, sit on the counter and return to room temperature and shake before use.

Assuming you can get 3/4 cup from this batch, the nutritional information is about two tablespoons of dressing. This information is calculated automatically, only estimates, not guaranteed.
Mixer Note: For optimal fusion results, use a personal size blender or a narrow bottom blender. If your blender has a broad base, you may need to double the recipe to make things move. (See my Vitamix review video if you have questions about this.)
Chipotle Pepper Note: Chipotle chili in Adobo sauce may vary in size. I like to use larger ones (about 2 inches long) in this recipe. I don’t think it’s too spicy. If you want spicy seasoning, you can always add another one and blend it again!
