35 years? History of American men on Madrid clay!

Who says American men can’t play on clay?

This year, these people carved a piece of history on the fast course at Madrid’s altitude.

and Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe join in Taylor Fritz and Brandon Nakashima In 16 rounds, the Quartet was the second time in the history of the ATP Masters 1000, after the five Americans in Hamburg did this trick in 1990, four or more Americans participated in 16 competitions of the clay event.



Then – 35 years ago! – It’s Andre Agassi, Jimmy Arias, Jay Berger, Jim Courier and Aaron Krickstein.

Fritz, who became the first American to enter the Madrid semi-finals last year since the 2009 event turned Clay in 2009, will face Casper Ruud in Madrid’s quarterfinals tonight, while Nakajima will also compete in Medvedev, the ninth seed, later today.

On Wednesday, Paul will face Jack Draper, while Tiafoe will contact Matteo Arnaldi.
